A former police officer was arrested in Florida.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested 47-year-old Matthew Baxter.

Baxter, a former part-time Pensacola Police Department officer, was initially arrested for possession of controlled substances without a prescription, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

According to FDLE, he was also charged on four counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, thirty counts of sexual activity involving animals, four counts of digital voyeurism, and two counts of using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.

The charges stemmed from an initial investigation that began in October 2026. This arrest is the result of FDLE’s statewide initiative to locate and arrest criminals targeting children and sharing files depicting child sexual abuse.

During an initial forensic analysis of electronic devices seized during this investigation, agents identified multiple files of child sexual abuse material and videos of sexual activity involving animals. Additionally, image files taken by Baxter of unknown subjects in various restrooms were also located.

Agents recently arrested Matthew Baker and transported him to the Escambia County jail without incident.

The Office of Agriculture – Law Enforcement and the United States Marshals Service assisted with effecting the arrest. The Florida case will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, Second Judicial Circuit. The investigation remains active, according to law enforcement.
