A school district in South Carolina is addressing concerns after candy was given out in medicine bottles ahead of Halloween.

In a post on Facebook, Laurens County School District 56, located in Clinton, South Carolina, addressed concerns, saying it “does not promote or encourage students to play with medicine bottles. In fact, we teach our students the importance of medication safety and that medicine bottles should never be used as toys.”

The post continued, saying, “We understand the concerns that have been raised regarding the recent distribution of candy in medicine bottles at one of our schools. We truly believe those involved had only good intentions and would never knowingly do anything to put a child in harm’s way. However, we recognize that even with the best intentions, this was not an appropriate way to distribute candy to students.”
